Back in October, the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum announced ExplorOcean--big plans for a new ocean exploration center featuring a "4-D" theater that pipes in a salt mist to help replicate the nautical experiences of vikings and pirates. Inhabitat gots its hands on several new renderings of the proposed park, all featuring the same slightly disturbing shade of blue water. The park, slated to replace the Balboa Fun Zone is being designed by Irvine-based architecture firm LPA Inc. and Inhabitat especially likes the "huge vegetated wall wrapping the exterior of the building, adding vertical habitat and greenscape to the grounds while reducing cooling needs inside."
The Newport Harbor Nautical Museum also has this vdeo, featuring flyovers of the renderings, floorplans, and a giant sea turtle superimposed over a 20 foot breaking wave, natch.
