Story Behind La Brea's Lenin Head, Join a Human Infographic

New, 1 comment

FAIRFAX: Aha, a reason (as much as there can be one) for the giant Lenin head sculpture on La Brea. The Gao Brothers' "Miss Mao Trying to Poise Herself at the Top of Lenin's Head" was brought to LA as part of The [Secret] Return of Noever show at the Ace Museum (that blue building behind the statue). The exhibition is hosted by SCI-Arc and celebrates MAK Center founder Peter Noever's 25 years in the curation business. According to an email, "Noever has been working with the Gao brothers on the 4th Art Triennial in Guangzhou (2011) and suggested that the sculpture be brought to Los Angeles for this exhibition." The show runs through December 30 and is open Monday through Friday. More info here. [Curbed Inbox]

DOWNTOWN: What are those crazy kids at GOOD up to? They're gathering people in Downtown this Saturday "to create a giant human infographic to attack L.A.’s traffic problem" (we're guessing they mean something like this). And as if being part of a human infographic doesn't sound fun enough, there'll be drinking afterwards. Here's where you can RSVP. [Curbed Inbox]
