"Either someone really didn't like Reagan or they tried to steal it so they can sell it for scrap metal," says a police sergeant in the wake of the attempted theft of the bronze Ronald Reagan statue at Bonita Canyon Sports Park in Newport Beach. The month-old, life-sized statue was found early Sunday "broken off its foundation and tilted forward with other damage, after thieves apparently tied a chain around it and tried to pull it away using a pickup truck or other vehicle."
