Arriving in Palm Springs just in time for the tale end of the high season: the Ace Hotel's bolero-wearing little brother. Sydell Group, which developed the Ace, just opened its first Saguaro hotel in Scottsdale, and now has plans to bring the concept to the old Holiday Inn at Sunrise Way and E. Palm Canyon Dr. in Palm Springs (just down the road from the Ace). According to the LA Times, the brand is "based on -- what else? -- the colors and casual style of the Southwest," meaning "bright yellows, oranges and pinks derived from the flowers that bloom there." Joie de Vivre will manage the hotel and it looks like big deal Philly chef Jose Garces could be handling the food, judging by speculation on Grub Street.
Sydell's tumblr says that the former Holiday Inn originally opened as the International in 1977 and got a major renovation in 2007 and 2008. It currently has 249 rooms.
In Scottsdale, regular rates at the Saguaro start at $189, according to HotelChatter, but there's a deal on for $100 a night if you're looking to get out of dodge for the holidays.
The Saguaro Palm Springs is set to open in February.
