Did you know that, at the current rate of repair, it would take nearly 70 years to fix all of LA's busted sidewalks? Yes, today's it's the LA Times's turn to take on the developing story of LA's relationship with its 10,750 miles of sidewalks, and it shares several fun statistics: 42 percent of LA's sidewalks are in disrepair and repairing a mile of sidewalk can cost $250,000 to $300,000 (hence the more reason for the common and cost-effective brand of sidewalk repair, the black asphalt patch). Back in October, City Council committees discussed options for unburdening the city of repair and liability costs--Councilmember Bernard Parks tells the LAT that they are a long way from consensus on how to proceed, splitting "from one extreme to another."
