You may have eyed the ten story Bob Hope Patriotic Hall while inching along the 10 or 110 and thought, What is that thing? Well, it was built for veterans in 1926 and Brigham Yen reports it closed down five years ago for a $48 million renovation and is set to reopen next year. Nadel Architects is working on modernizing the building's electricity, plumbing, telecommunications, and safety systems. "In addition, there will be upgrades to the gymnasium on the 10th floor, auditorium, full-service kitchen, restrooms and lobby," Yen notes. The building is next door to Chinese automaker BYD's new headquarters. [Brigham Yen]
