Melrose's Orbit Hostel Becoming a Palihotel With Thai Massage, Rooms Starting at $150/Night

It's been more than a year since Paligroup's long-planned Palihouse Vine in Hollywood took a (soft) left and became instead the SBE-run Redbury, but you can't keep a super-hip boutique hotel developer down for long. Construction is underway now on Paligroup's latest--the Palihotel -- Melrose Avenue, a 32 room "European neighborhood inn" on Melrose Ave. at Hayworth, in the former home of the Orbit Hotel and Hostel (the facade will change). And this will be a rather different concept from Palihouse Vine and the group's Palihouse Holloway in West Hollywood--rooms will all be about 250 square feet, "many with private balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows, and come in Twin and/or Queen categories," according to a press release. Rates will start at $150 per night.

The press release adds that "Every guest room is alike in design and amenities." Paligroup head Avi Brosh led the design work, which "incorporates a mix of different styles and eras and combines various finishes and many original details in a non-formulaic manner. Walls throughout are a deep, dark geen, custom-made furniture adorns every area of the property, and rich guest room fabrics mingle with brass, cork and rustic details. In-room products are signature to the brand, and minibars are well appointed with fare from Dean & Deluca and more."

The hotel will also have a seven-bed Thai massage spa, a blowout salon for both guests and the public, plus a center courtyard with lounge areas. The Palikitchen will be a "coffee shop-inspired cafe" with self-serve comfort foods.

Palihotel -- Melrose Avenue's opening is scheduled for February 2012.
