There's finally a deal in place to take care of Maguire Gardens, that many-fountained park in front of the Central Library. Back in August, the City Council rejected a new maintenance contract with MPG Office Trust because of a crazy-high budget and built-in 2% annual increases. MPG said part of the reason for the high cost was the long-dead Fifth Street farmers' market. Now that that's been cleared up and the Library Department has renegotiated with MPG, there's a new contract without the 2% yearly increases and with a 10% reduction overall via "a combination of third-party contract management and corporate contributions."
