HISTORIC SOUTH-CENTRAL: Last week the City Council voted to authorize $15 million in housing bonds for the Dunbar Village project, which includes the renovation of the historic Dunbar Hotel (Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong hung out there in the thirties and forties; it was turned into low-income housing in the eighties). Dunbar Village will turn the former hotel and the neighboring Sommerville I and II apartments into an mixed-use project with ground-floor retail, a public plaza on Central Ave., and 83 housing units for seniors and families.
