Here's Ice Cube Recreating an Old Charles Eames Photo

New, 16 comments

LOS ANGELES: We stopped by the Collecting Eames exhibition at the JF Chen showroom yesterday (part of the massive Pacific Standard Time survey of mid-century LA art, natch) to get a look every Eames chair ever made. (Sidenote: holy cow.) While we were there, curator, producer, and owner of lots of Eames objects Daniel Ostroff showed us the final art for the forthcoming "Ice Cube Celebrates Eames" video, in which the rapper/actor will share how he's been influenced by designers Charles and Ray Eames (PST is pairing mid-century artists with younger artists in a series of marketing videos--see Anthony Kiedis/Ed Ruscha here and Jason Schwartzman/John Baldessari here). Cube wanted to recreate an old Charles Eames photo (see below) for the promotional image, so Ostroff supplied the proper DAT Chair from 1953--it was only made for about a year and a half.
