Before the AIA/LA Design Awards at the Pacific Design Center last night, Gruen Associates gave tours of its not-quite-finished Red Building (Cesar Pelli designed the building, Gruen is the architect of record). Big Red is the last in the PDC trilogy. It's been many decades in the making and will still be a few months more--it's currently scheduled to open early next year. And whew, some views from up there. The L1 level is nearly 200 feet up and L7, the second highest floor, offers a killer, unblocked panorama. We also learned that the Metro bus lot next door is landlocked, so an easement through the site had to be maintained during construction for buses to get in and out. The Jawa Crawler will have 400,000 square feet of office space above 1,200 parking spaces.
