The City Council's Planning and Land Use Management committee today approved an ordinance that will allow farmers' markets in residential areas. It was approved by the Planning Commission in September. The ordinance creates criteria for the operation of the markets covering location, hours of operation, noise, trash, light, signage, and parking. PLUM added one amendment to the ordinance to clarify notification requirements for the new markets. Councilmember Herb Wesson also added an amendment that will increase the space allowed for parking at these new residential markets by up to 50 percent. A hearing date for the full City Council has not yet been set. [Curbed Staff]
