Downtown Stays Real: Hooters Gals, Wenches Coming to South Park

New, 19 comments

Just when Downtown was getting a bit haughty with all that fancy architecture and culture on Bunker Hill, including the new Diller Scofidio+Renfro-designed Eli Broad museum, the area is brought down to Earth. Blogdowntown reports that, yes, a Hooters is indeed moving to Figueroa in South Park, a bit south and across the street from the Staples Center. And if that wasn't classy enough for you, the same building (a former car dealership) housing all the orange shorts and hot wings will also be the future home of a medieval-themed restaurant (no forks, but there will be wenches) that two Romanian businessmen are opening. Construction should start soon on both restaurants, with a summer opening planned. A ticket broker will also share ground-floor space on the three-story building, and there's another 25,000 square foot restaurant/nightclub space that may be close to being leased-out. Downtown's new motto: Business up north, party down south?
