Nathaniel Dryden-Designed Historic Landmark in Northwest Glendale

New, 24 comments

Known as Ard Eevin, this 108-year-old home in the foothills of the Verdugos is one of a small number of buildings designed by self-taught architect Nathaniel Dryden. While not nearly as well known as the residence Dryden designed for developer/financier Leslie Brand a year later, El Miradero (now the Brand Library), Ard Eevin is listed on the National Register and, per the Glendale Historical Society, is the anchor of the city's recently designated Ard Eevin Highlands Historic District. A mixture of Colonial Revival, Craftsman, and "West Indies Plantation" architecture styles, the 3,788-square-foot residence has been in the same family since it was erected, and features three bedrooms, 2.25 baths, four fireplaces, a formal dining room, and upgraded electric, roof, plumbing, air/heating systems. No, there's no pool, but with a lot size of 29,320 square feet, there's plenty of room for one. Asking price is $1.599 million.
