Many-Skinned Mid-Century Modern in Holmby Hills

New, 35 comments

Lots of interesting choices have been made in this 1951 house in Holmby Hills, from painted wood to a Spanish Colonial chandelier to the dozens of animal trophies, but there's still some classic mid-century Modernism left in it. The five bedroom, six and a half bathroom house has a dining room, wetbar area, library, pool, tennis court, and "huge motorcourt & lush park-like grounds," according to the listing. And a property like this doesn't come without a little pedigree--a dig through the LA Times archives tells us that actress Vanessa Brown lived here with her plastic surgeon husband in the fifties, and according to PropertyShark, its owner was late attorney Arthur J. Crowley, who defended Confidential magazine in the infamous 1957 libel trial. Asking price is $23 million.
