"The Industry" that is, not the neighborhood. The New York Times reports that many states are considering scaling back or dropping financial incentives they offer producers to shoot films and TV shows in their states (many new Republican governors are behind the change and say there's no proof the credits add to state coffers). How this may benefit California is unclear, "but film and television tax credits passed under [Schwarzenegger] remain intact at a cost of $100 million a year"; according to the NYT, credits "often give a film company direct or indirect cash payments even if no tax is owed." The California Film Commission argues the incentives have brought $697 million in film crew wages since 2009. [NY Times]
