In an editorial in the Los Feliz Ledger, Ken Winick, a Coldwell Banker real estate agent, urges Silver Lake residents (and likely even those without kids) who live in the Ivanhoe School District to donate $100 to help Ivanhoe Elementary School cover expenses in light of Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) cutbacks. Because of its good reputation, Winick believes Ivanhoe Elementary helps keep home values high, so helping the school will ultimately help homeowners. He offers up some statistics: "Prime Silver Lake has seen an 11% decline in home prices since 2007. Los Feliz has decrease 20% and some Westside areas as much as 50%. Yet, in this area of Silver Lake, we have seen a 2% increase in prices through August of 2010 and many homes are selling with multiple offers within days... Since 2000 there has been significantly more families purchasing in the area to take advantage of Ivanhoe’s reputation."
