The New York Times calls "Law & Order: Los Angeles" series "a worthy heir" of the original, and seems to like the LA setting. How this series--nicknamed LOLA--is different than its NYC counterpart: After all those dark Manhattan alleys, the LA setting "is almost blindingly bright and sunny," the detectives are less sardonic and more gentle (and this is seen as OK, by the NYT), and "the mood is more mellow." Characters include preening politicians, and detectives get their tips via TMZ. Sounds about right. [NYT]
