Hawthorne is putting the brakes on allowing anymore used car shops, according to the Breeze. "Eighteen secondhand auto retailers is enough, council members said Tuesday night when they denied a property owner's plans to open another car dealership at a vacant former tire shop." The moves comes after an application for another car dealership, but according to the paper "used-car dealers line Hawthorne's Prairie Avenue and are also prevalent on Hawthorne Boulevard and Inglewood Avenue." And interestingly, the owners of these shops "are frequent and large City Council election campaign contributors."
