The maximum amount victims can be compensated in rail disasters, $200 million, is what Metrolink will offer those injured, and families of those killed, in the Chatsworth train crash of September 2008. A lawyer for one of the victims told the Los Angeles Times that that amount would only cover "between a third and a half of the true damages"--the newspaper indicates Metrolink's compensation may spark a debate on the federal cap for rail settlements.
