The Daily Breeze reports that Lomita Development "purposefully sidestepped laws when it buried oil-contaminated concrete slabs decades ago before constructing 285 single-family homes in Carson's Carousel tract, researchers recently revealed." The development company, Shell Oil, homeowners, and the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board have been trying to figure who's responsible for and what to do about high levels of methane and benzene underneath the neighborhood. A report is due out September 15, and it's possible Carouselians will have to leave their neighborhood behind. [Daily Breeze]
