Remains of the Cold War

Vertical Test Stand 1 at Boeing's Santa Susana Field Laboratory, finished in 1950, was the US's first large rocket test stand. It's been out of commission since the sixties and some of its parts have been sent to the Smithsonian, but next week Boeing will start demolishing what's left of the stand. Some environmentalists want the remains to stay, though, as a reminder of what went on at the site. [PSN]
