The media's negative news about high-speed rail in California may be snowballing lately, but today saw the ground-breaking for San Francisco's Transbay Transit Center, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects-designed transportation hub that will serve numerous public transit systems. Additionally, it'll be the first new high-speed rail station in the United States. Dubbed the "Grand Central of the West," the first phase of Transbay Terminal construction could be done by 2017, according to KVTU.
