The spinning sign at the Five Points Car Wash in Whittier hasn't spun in 20 years, is illegal under city codes, and is slated to come down by 2017. But the two new buyers of the car wash want to refurbish the site and have it designated as a landmark, which would allow them to keep the sign. The LA and Whittier Conservancies are on board and Googie wonk Chris Nichols says the car wash was "among the most authentic, intact and artful of all of the sites we have explored."
