Echo Park's poor Lady of the Lake statue, or Nuestra Reina de Los Angeles, cannot catch a break. The Eastsider LA reports that after her broken left hand was repaired last year, a vandal has again ripped off the left hand, as well as the fingers on the right. The Eastsider LA indicates the digits went missing around the time of the Lotus Festival on July 11, but a commenter says the hands were broken off seven to eight weeks ago. The president of the Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council, Jose Sigala, expressed anger over the crime and called for donations for repair. As another Eastsider commenter stated, it may be time for the Lady to be placed on a riser or fenced in. It's not clear how the Echo Park Lake rehabilitation, which will make the lake inaccessible for two years, would affect refurbishment of the statue. Image via Eastsider LA
