The New York Times checks out Maywood's bold decision to lay off all its employees and concludes that, at least, the sky is not falling. The city is contracting with most of its former employees, and pays the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for policing. The mayor and city council, who still receive biweekly stipends from the city, seem very pleased. [NYT]
