See Scott, One of LA's Guerrilla Gardeners, in Action

New, 7 comments

Courtesy of GOOD, comes your Monday afternoon moment of zen: a video of guerrilla gardener Scott Bunnell, a man making the medians of greater LA greener. Part of the SoCal Guerrilla Gardening group, Scott has been planting for years, mostly under-the-radar until a few years ago. Joined by volunteers, Scott clears out trash and donates mostly drought-resistant plants that are placed into the soil. The video shows work being done in Long Beach, but the SoCal Guerrilla Gardening website lists recently-installed gardens from Hollywood to the OC (Scott himself says he plans to add green "from Seal Beach to Azusa.") Looks like these gardeners rarely get permission from city officials. Scott says, "If the government isn't going to spend money to do something (on public land), then I as a citizen should be able to do something there. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, so I'll do it and listen to the objections later."
