Everyone Can Drive a Golf Cart Down Wilshire Boulevard

New, 16 comments

LAT columnist Susan Carpenter drove around the city--a trip which also included a drive from downtown L.A. to Santa Monica via Wilshire Blvd--on the electric Club Car Villager 2+2, "essentially a souped-up golf cart that targets drivers who want to run short errands without turning the ignitions on their gas guzzlers.” The car is legal to drive on streets with speed limits of 35 mph or less, and carries up to four adults, according to the official web site for the car. It costs about $7,500, but given the lack of an exterior frame, diligence and extra attention is required when driving, according to Carpenter, who compares driving the car to driving a motorcycle. Perhaps downtowners will want to consider this method of transportation if that streetcar doesn't pan out.
