Dingbat, Los Angeles Icon, Redesigned for the Future

New, 7 comments

The dingbat apartment building: it ought to be on the Los Angeles crest, right next to a palm tree and a plastic surgery-enhanced Westsider. For its Dingbat 2.0 competition, the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design asked pros and students "to re-envision the Dingbat, and, in so doing, offer a revised vision for L.A. itself." Entrants were asked to come up with a modern dingbat incarnation for a site in West Hollywood, Palms, or Santa Monica. Eight professional and five student winners (chosen by judges including architect Barbara Bestor and Neil Denari, WeHo urban designer John Chase, and cityLAB director Dana Cuff) were announced last weekend at the opening of the LA Forum's Dingbat 2.0 Exhibition in Hollywood, and here they are, with more information on each one here. You can also check them out at the exhibition, which runs through July 24.
