Councilman LaBonge: First Time We've Been Burglarized

New, 7 comments

Some more details about that burglary at City Councilman Tom LaBonge's home last Friday afternoon. The home--LaBonge lives north of Sunset Blvd, in a pocket of Silver Lake roughly bounded by Micheltorena St, Hyperion Blvd and the reservoir--was accessed via a rear window, according to LaBonge, who declined to say what was taken, or put a monetary amount on what was swiped. "It's absolutely no fun," said LaBonge, who grew up in the area, and said this is the first time his home has been burglarized (aside from a stolen hose and bike). "You feel violated." He also added his wife Brigid was very shaken up by the event. LaBonge said he believes it was a random burglary, and pointed out there's been an uptick in break-ins in the Silver Lake-Los Feliz-Franklin Hills area over the last 4-5 months. LaBonge, who grew up in the area, isn't the only politician to experience crime in this pocket of LA: Last year, City Councilman Eric Garcetti's wallet was stolen after his car was broken while it parked outside his Echo Park home, Eastsider LA reported. UPDATE: The LA Times reports two teenagers were seen climbing into LaBonge's house, and a laptop computer and jewelry were taken.
