Protesting a transit fare hike that kicks in July 1, members of the Bus Riders Union, some of whom have gone on hunger strikes over the hikes, passed out bags of groceries to the mayor and Metro board members to symbolize how the increase will affect poor riders. The Daily News reports that Metro spokesman Mark Littman countered that the fare hikes won't affect seniors, students, or disabled until 2013 and that LA's buses and trains remain cheaper than other cities.
