Santa Monica City Councilmember Bobby Shriver has been elected mayor, finally filling the position left open by Ken Genser's death in January. The LAT says Shriver "plans as mayor to continue his effort to free up unoccupied buildings on the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs campus as housing for homeless veterans." Shriver is approximately the millionth member of the Kennedy family to hold public office. [LAT]
