Two complaints were filed against Sylmar's Olive View Medical Center this month alleging that "doctors, nurses and other medical staff" went to an ad hoc salon in the infant unit "to get manicures and have their eyebrows waxed and that people could smell acetone in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit," according to the Daily News. Yesterday a Los Angeles County health official said that "While nails were painted and eyebrows were shaped, the majority of the activities occurred off duty and on breaks." Investigations are ongoing and two staffers have been placed on paid leave, but the official says this all boils down to "a bottle of polish, a nail file, and a pair of tweezers, all used in a breakroom or locker room."
