Every time we turn around, architecture firm Studio One Eleven is working on something new and interesting in Long Beach, and here they are again with the transit-oriented Long Beach + Anaheim, which will cluster around the Blue Line's Anaheim Station. The project will have 24,000 square feet of retail and 356 residential units, plus a car-sharing service, bike facilities, and an enhanced bus stop next to the light rail station.
The tallest building in the complex will be the thirteen story Gateway on the corner, which will have retail and for-sale housing. The Boulevard on Long Beach Boulevard will have retail, condos, and very affordable senior rental housing, and the Avenue on Anaheim will hold a 147 unit senior arts colony, with one and two bedrooms for people over 55. According to Design Director Michael Bohn, the colony will include art studios, a playhouse, a library, a fitness center, and an audio/video facility. Like Fame for the mah jongg set!
The whole project is being developed by Meta Housing Corporation, developers of the Burbank Senior Artists Colony. Phase one will break ground in September and include the arts colony and 39 units of affordable senior housing connected by a courtyard with a dog park and community gardens. First move-ins for aging Leroys and Cocos are slated for summer 2012.
