Another year, another ground-breaking for a Wallis Annenberg-funded project. The Beverly Hills Courier reports on the ground-breaking ceremony for the new SPF: Architects-designed Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. The project will be both an adaption of Beverly Hills' historic postal office on North Canon Dr, and a new space. "The [post office] building will be restored and adapted, and the spaces that were once used for mail sorting and postage purchases will be redesigned to become a theater school, a flexible studio theater, sculpture garden, café, gift shop and more. Complimenting the historic building will be the 500-seat contemporary Goldsmith Theater." The Architect's Newspaper also covered the project last year, and has more on the post office, an "Italian Renaissance Revival building, originally designed by Ralph C. Flewelling with Allison & Allison Architects, [that] was built as a Works Progress Administration project." No immediate word on when it'll be finished.
