Your Cheat Sheet to Hollywood's New Rental Market Madness

New, 41 comments

In case you missed it, there's been a mini-building boom underway in Hollywood in terms of new rental projects. Within a roughly two square mile area between Highland Avenue, Hollywood Boulevard, Franklin Avenue and Gower Street, five new rental buildings have either just opened, or will open in the next few months. What do this mean for you, young whippersnapper? Competition. Which can translate into move-in deals. At 1600 Vine, for instance, where one-bedrooms start at $2,625, there's a special if you sign a year-long lease. "Right now, you get two months free," says a leasing rep for the building. Over at Alta Hollywood, a 218-unit building opening in May, leasing reps are talking of offering a "move-in gift" (the exact gift hasn't been announced yet). But here's the upshot: If you're looking to move to Hollywood, play these buildings off each other. Threaten to go to one of the other rentals if they don't knock off a month or two or three. These leasing reps may show you the door, but try!
