New, 11 comments

MELROSE BLVD: After so many restless nights spent wondering what's rising on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax avenues, we get an answer. It's a 2,500 square foot commercial building that'll be done in about six months, according to the Shah Noorvash, the listed broker. [Curbed Staff]

SANTA MONICA: The recession has resulted in some interesting uses of empty commercial spaces, and now a reader sends in word that Archstone Santa Monica on Main Street in Santa Monica is holding a contest for artists to display work in the building's ground-floor space. Translation=Archstone sees the recession lasting at least another six months. Via their web site: "Archstone Santa Monica on Main is happy to announce our First Annual Art Contest. This contest is open to local artists and students. Winner of the contest will receive six months of free retail space at Archstone Santa Monica on Main for use as a gallery, and a $1,000 Visa gift card. The winner will be announced at Archstone Santa Monica on Main’s First Annual Art Gala in April." [Curbed InBox]
