“I am required to now inform you that your plan is rejected"--that's how Peter Rogoff of the Federal Transit Administration informed BART, the Bay Area's commuter rail line, that they were pulling $70 million from a planned BART connector to Oakland Airport, reports The New York Times. The feds still plan on gifting the $70 million, but the funds have to be used for Bay Area transit projects other than the airport connector. The FTA was not convinced BART addressed alleged violations of the Civil Rights Act in regards to the connector, which is planned to travel through minority areas. BART says the $492 million line will still be built. [NY Times]
