Money Pie Goes West

Amid much political hand-wringing, California is getting $624 million in high-speed rail funds after the Obama administration took the money from other states, according to the Associated Press. "Both Ohio and Wisconsin have elected incoming Republican governors who oppose the rail projects. So [Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood] said he is awarding their money to rail projects in states that are eager to have it." Ohio's Gov.-elect John Kasich wanted to use $400 million in funds for other uses, like road construction, but the "law that authorized funding for high-speed rail projects stipulated that the funds can't be used for other purposes..."
