Can you stand any more coverage of the Golden Key Hotel/Americana at Brand expansion debate? Well, neighborhood activist Cary Brazeman decided to sacrifice a restful night at his 3rd Street-area condo to spend a night at the hotel, all part of an investigative piece to reveal whether the facility is blighty or not, and should be removed to make way for more Americana shops. In anticipation of his big overnighter at the Golden Key, Brazeman packs three mousetraps, duct tape, and a can of Flea-Be-Gone to ward off the anticipated mice, fleas and pimps. While he concludes the hotel needs a fresh coat of paint, it turns out a night near Americana is pretty pleasant. "It doesn’t get much better than this, I must say: A Saturday night stroll in the hamlet of Glendale, a Double-Double at In-n-Out, a restful night in a comfortable hotel room, a morning chat with friendly strangers over coffee, a sumptuous buffet in a glorious Valley setting."
