Arts District Staple Moves, Where to Eat on Christmas, LAT Critic Revealed

New, 8 comments

ARTS DISTRICT: Royal Clayton's, on the bottom of the Toy Factory Lofts, was once one of the only places you could get a decent meal in the gentrifying southeast part of Downtown (not any more). Well, Clayton's (pictured) shuttered recently, but will reveal their new home in the new year. End of an era.

LOS ANGELES: Who wants to cook a ham? Eater lets you know where to take the fam for Christmas Dinner--from Santa Monica to San Gabriel, Studio City to Culver City.

BEVERLY HILLS: We're still reeling from this one. S. Irene Virbila, the venerable LA Times food critic, was shown the door recently at Red Medicine, a new Vietnamese place on Wilshire. Partner Noah Ellis tells Eater, "We didn't want her reviewing us, and we wanted anyone else she is going to review to have the benefit of knowing what she looks like (they took a picture of her before giving her the boot), as we feel that her rating system isn't consistent and some of her reviews are unnecessarily harsh, which unfairly punishes the staff." Woah. There's more follow-up today from the LA Times.
