A ceremonial groundbreaking took place today for Long Beach Airport's new $28 million passenger terminals and concourse, part of a $140 million airport modernization plan by HOK Architects that finishes in two years, reports the Long Beach Press-Telegram. The art deco front of LB Airport will remain, but the current shabby terminals--separated from the ticketing and security up front--will be replaced with fancy new enviro-friendly terminals (solar panels, low-flow plumbing, etc.) that will include new restaurants. Getting to your flight should be more pleasant—the new concourse will feature an open-air garden and palm court, along with glass display cases featuring art and rotating exhibits.
