NBC Universal Evolution Plan Brings Out the Public in Studio City

New, 36 comments

Studio City Patch attended Monday afternoon's meeting for the NBC Universal Evolution plan, a meeting that allowed the public to voice concerns/support for the project (rendering seen above; it's looking like a colorful pork chop). In one post, Patch covers the concerns from locals, which includes worries about everything from overlap of this plan with the proposed expansion of the MTA station on Lankershim Boulevard to accusations that analysis of major streets are missing From the draft EIR. Meanwhile, Patch also tracked down Pat Gibson, president of Gibson Transportation Consulting, who wrote the traffic analysis for the DEIR. Gibson answers numerous questions, including the following about the area around Lankershim/Universal Hollywood Drive: "In your opinion, why is that Universal City area so congested now?"

GIBSON:? There are two reasons why that particular intersection is congested now. One is that we have a tremendous number of pedestrians crossing Lankershim from the subway to the Universal Studios shuttle that takes people up the hill to the theme park, to the studio tours. In the future, we're doing two things that will improve that. One, Metro is going to build finally its pedestrian overpass over that intersection. So pedestrians will be able to take an escalator up and go across Lankershim without having to go across the crosswalk." Click through to read the rest of his answer.
