Videos Show Westfield Costco Battle Has Entered New Level of Nastiness

New, 25 comments

Jackie Frank, Vice-President of Real Estate Development with Costco, unknown man, John Alderson, Westfield's development director, at recent neighborhood meeting

Today, the the Los Angeles Times' Bob Pool covers developer Westfield's plans to erect a 146,000 square foot Costco on Victory Blvd between Owensmouth and Topanga Canyon Blvd, a plan that has opponents asking for a smaller, two-story Costco store (or no store at all). For his story, Pool draws on comments recently made by both Westfield and Costco executives at a local planning meeting, a meeting that the Hills of Woodland blog has posted video recording of. There are two videos, and it's hard to know what else was said, and what was edited out, but the footage shows the tension between those critical of the project and Westfield/Costco. And wow, the contempt and frustration the two sides have for each other is evident. One video shows John Alderson, Westfield's development director, sounding frustrated and angered by the opponents; that's after the jump. Another video with Alderson and Jackie Frank, Vice-President of Real Estate Development with Costco, bickering with audience members, can be seen here on YouTube. It's all a little uncomfortable to watch!
