Officials with the commuter rail announced a purchase of 20 safety-enhanced Hyundai Rotem rail cars from South Korea, the Los Angeles Times reported this weekend. The $1.68 million cars "have energy-absorbing crush zones and other safety improvements now required by the federal government"--Metrolink now has 137 Rotem cars out of their 160-car fleet.
