Pomona Tower Architect: Don't Destroy It

New, 14 comments

The tension between Cal Poly Pomona staff and Antoine Predock, the architect of the school's soon-to-be demolished obelisk tower, is palpable in this Architect's Newspaper article. Predock says his building, built in '93, is not structurally inept as school officials say--it survived the Northridge and Chino Hills earthquakes.“It is devastating to imagine that this iconic structure, one of the most important of my designs, might be demolished... [it's] an irreplaceable loss," Predock says. The university president says most students and staff just aren't that "fond of the structure." Ouch. [AN]
