There is a parking crisis looming in Santa Monica--in 2012, two construction projects will overlap and parking structures six and three will be closed simultaneously, taking 681 parking spaces temporarily out of the mix. This month the city is discussing options including "constructing a temporary two-story structure at Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue, setting up a valet program using privately owned garages and moving more than 500 monthly parkers to the Civic Center" or "more out-of-the-box solutions, like a possible smart phone application that would direct commuters to lots with open spaces."
