Gregory Ain's Hay House in the Hollywood Hills

New, 14 comments

Recently declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, this three-bedroom, two-bath International-style house was designed in 1939 by Gregory Ain for gay-rights pioneer Harry Hay. (Hay commissioned the home for his mother, Margaret.) According to Cultural Heritage Commission documents, Hay conducted meetings of the Mattachine Society, the early gay-rights group he co-founded, at the property, and it became "an FBI-watched address." Located near the Cahuenga Pass, the house features casement clerestory windows, slanted ceilings, a fireplace, new hardwood floors, and covered parking for two cars. Monthly rent is $4,500.
