The fun continues with the $1 billion 405 widening/carpool lane project. Tomorrow night, closures and demo/replacement work begin on the Skirball Center Drive bridge, with full and partial shut-downs of the freeway from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., lasting five nights, reports The Source.
Half of the bridge will be knocked down during the week, resulting in the southbound 405 from Burbank Blvd. to Getty Center Drive closed in the aforementioned hours on Tuesday and Wednesday. The north 405 from Getty to Ventura will be inaccessible on Thursday and Friday (same times), while the Skirball Center Drive off-ramp is out of commission on Saturday night (yup, same times). Metro explains in a press release how the bridge, the second of three to be replaced for the new northbound carpool lane, is getting rebuilt:
"The north side of the [Skirball] bridge will be demolished first. That will be followed by approximately seven months of north side bridge reconstruction. Upon completion of the north side of the bridge, the south side of the bridge will be demolished and rebuilt in the same manner." Sepulveda will be open during this week's ruckus--oh, and the bulldozers start rolling at midnight, if you Brentwooders with telescopes hope to catch a glimpse.
