Earlier this week The Daily News broke down the hard facts regarding the 405 widening project, which will add a northbound carpool lane from the 10 interchange in West LA to the 101 connection in Sherman Oaks. Here's the digits: the 10-mile, $1 billion carpool lane project will realign 27 on- and off-ramps, widen 13 underpasses, construct about 18 miles of sound walls, and standardize most northbound freeway lanes to 12-feet wide. The lane will not only save carpoolers and bus riders 1 minute per mile traveled, but apparently assist all commuters by absorbing about 15 to 25 percent of vehicles on the road. [Daily News]
